Points
How do I earn points, and what can I spend them on?
You earn points by writing and by shipping, and you spend them on a few days of extra visibility for one thing you made. Your own balance and your own rates are on the points page.
What a point is
Earned only
Is this a score, or a currency?
A balance you spend down. Buy a boost and the number drops by what it cost, then climbs again as you earn.
Not the Havor Score — The Score ranks a ship and cannot be spent. Spending points never touches it.
Ways to earn
5 ways
Some you can go and do. The rest happen to you when someone backs your work or a ship clears a stage. A referral pays twice: at signup, then when they ship.
- +2
- You comment on a ship, or answer in a discussion
- +30/100
- Someone joins or ships through your link
- +15
- You answer a help request and get credited
- +3
- Someone backs or replies to your comment, answers your discussion, or backs your ship update
- +100
- A ship of yours reaches a new stage
What one post can earn
However popular
A ceiling on each thing you write. Backs and answers past that point still show on it; they stop adding to your balance.
- A comment or answer
- 15 points
- A discussion
- 15 points, from the answers it draws
- A ship update
- 12 points, from backs
What one day can earn
However busy
A second ceiling across the whole day, with a tighter one inside it on your own comments and answers.
- A day, all in
- 40 points
- Your own writing
- 20 of those 40
- Referrals, ship stages
- Outside the daily cap entirely
- Founding builders
- 1.5× on every rate, and on both ceilings above
Not a spending allowance — These bound what you can earn in a day, never what you can spend.
What earns nothing
3 things
Following a builder, views on your ship and backs you give someone else. Someone has to act on your work for it to pay.
Not posting itself — Posting either pays nothing. An answer to the discussion pays, as does a back on the update.
When points land
Held first
A new earn is held, then checked once more before it lands. If what earned it is later deleted or taken down, its points go too, even after landing.
- The hold
- About 3 hours
- After landing
- Kept, unless what earned them is removed
- Unvested stage points
- Written off after 180 days
What points buy
4 surfaces
A few days at the top of one of these. Nothing else is for sale.
- Boost a ship
- 200 points · 3 days · In the Boosted rail on the home page
- Boost an event
- 200 points · 3 days · At the top of the events page
- Boost a room
- 200 points · 3 days · At the top of the communities directory
- Boost a thread
- 200 points · 3 days · At the top of the discussions page
- Money
- Buys nothing. There is no way to top up.
What limits a boost
1 of each
One of each kind at a time, so a bigger balance never outbids a smaller one. It buys placement for a few days and nothing else.
- The same thing again
- After 16 days
- Paid seats, per page
- ship 10, event 2, room 2, thread 2
- Before a thread can go
- Replies from 3 other builders
- Your Havor Score
- Untouched
Not an ad slot — More points buy no more of it, and none of it is ever sold for money.
What trips people up
Limits on purpose, not rough edges.
Backs between the same two people stop paying
Two builders who keep backing each other stop conferring points on one another for a while. Nothing is announced and nothing is penalised; it simply pays nothing until the pattern breaks.
A brand-new account earns less
For your first 14 days your writing earns half, and your backs confer nothing on anyone else. It lifts on its own — there is nothing to apply for.
